Off to Athens

The day began hopefully as our hot sir balloon ride was rescheduled from yesterday to today. We awoke very early and were picked up by the balloon company at 4:15 am. Upon arrival at their offices we signed in then saw they had a breakfast spread. It was quite a crowd awaiting flights. And we waited, And waited. Finally they announced that the rides were cancelled due to weather conditions. Pooh. We were all so looking forward to the adventure. As we’re leaving this afternoon there’s no chance to reschedule again.

So we went back to our hotel to nap a bit after the early morning. We had a leisurely breakfast then decided to wander up and around the town. The roads are very narrow, curving, rough and have the usual crazy drivers somehow managing it all. But it provided views of the surrounding area and peeks into local life. We stopped back in the main town section and ordered Turkish pancakes, which resemble French crepes. That sufficed for lunch.

Our shuttle to the airport arrived picking up a full load. We had a charming woman from Taiwan sit next to us making the drive interesting. She was amazed to hear that I had been to Taipei, albeit many years ago.

The Turkish Airways flight had the usual craziness surrounding boarding but went fine. Surprisingly on such a short flight they served food and drinks!

Immigration was a snap so we decided to try taking the metro. With Jayne’s cleverness we found the station, bought tickets and awaited the train. It was crowded considering it was a late Thursday night. And a long, noisy ride but we found the correct station, exited and walked the bit to our hotel, the Athens Manor House. We were so tired that we basically collapsed into bed.
