We had a lazy start to the day as we had no specific time plans. We breakfasted then headed over to the Acropolis Museum. We managed to get tickets fairly easily even without my usual skip the line early purchase.

And what a place it is! A very modern building next to the base of the Acropolis built over ruins of an historic housing area that you can still explore. Multiple floors of relics all extraordinarily displayed and labeled. Just realizing the age of items and the abilities they had to create them is incredible. Many have been painstakingly reconstructed. Overall it was a fabulous visit.

We then walked to the National Park, a huge area in the center of the city. We wandered, we checked out plants we wanted to identify as well as birds, using the Merlin app Mandy had me get. We even spotted tortoises noshing on grass and a large pond full of turtles.

Next it was time for a late lunch. Jane found a hole in the wall. Very authentic restaurant which we squeezed into. An older gentleman was running everything, The place was obviously well known by the number of people unsuccessfully looking for seats. We enjoyed a delicious meal with the man just writing our bill total on the paper tablecloth.

Then it was time to veg a while at the hotel after all our walking. Eventually we went back out for yet another al fresco dinner. It provided more opportunity to be amazed at the liveliness of the evenings here and the huge numbers of people. Glad we’re here during this mild weather and not at the height of the tourist season.
