Turkey and Greece!

Faithful readers will know that I promised my grandchildren a trip of their choice anywhere in the world for their tenth birthday. Silas chose Italy, the story of which you can read in this blog. Now it’s Josephine’s turn! While she turned 10 a year ago, she couldn’t decide where she wished to travel. After much debate and another year later we finally determined that we would head to Turkey and Greece. I was happy with this choice, as I’ve not been to either country. And at this point in my life, I feel there are still places to see for the first time, so no do-overs for the most part. My intrepid fellow adult traveler, my daughter-in-law, Jayne, will of course be accompanying us. She has briefly visited Turkey a number of years ago, but she was definitely game for this journey.

I’ve flown to Boston a couple days early to meet up with them before the long haul to Istanbul. We’ll begin this adventure there, then it’s off to Cappadocia. Lots of flying on this trip, unlike all the great train rides in Italy. The next leg will be to Athens, then the renown island of Santorini and the lesser known island of Milos. The last flights will bring us back to Athens, to Istanbul and finally back to Boston.

I shall do my best to blog/journal this adventure as I like to do for any of my overseas jaunts. It helps me remember all the good times (and keeps it straight in my memories!) plus it gives my friends and dear readers who can’t travel a way to experience it virtually. I hope you’ll join along! Please feel free to comment as we go, as I enjoy knowing who’s with us.

If you like how this trip was planned you may want to contact my travel planner, Lita Talisman. When I was whining to my daughter about the difficulty of sorting through all the information about the places I wished to visit making me feel overwhelmed with choices she suggested I call her friend Lita. Best decision I made! She was delightful to work with, making hotel, tour and guide suggestions. Once we agreed on the plan she booked everything!
