A slice of Lima life… and home!

After days of constantly being on the go our final day was slow and unconstructed. We hardly knew what to do after always having everything timed out and arranged. Our group of 28 travelers was slowly dispersing around the globe. We’ve been with people from not only the states, but also Canada, the UK, Norway and Jersey (as in the Isle of, not New). We all had various flights taking us home that Celebrity arranged to get us to the airport in good time and with help to check in.

But first, Patty and I had the day to ourselves as our flight wasn’t scheduled to depart until just before midnight and our driver wasn’t picking us up until 8 pm. We had a good sleep in and a late breakfast, saying a few more goodbyes. We then decided to go for a walk around the hotel area, popping into numerous shops. It was rather hot and humid so we rambled back. I took the time to blog and read while Patty had a swim in the hotel pool.

We got a little restless and heard from the Jersey folks that they discovered a nice park within walking distance. After consulting with the concierge and obtaining a printed map with the way drawn out we ambled off once again. By that time things had cooled off a bit and had a nice breeze making it far more pleasant. About a mile or more later there was the park.

It was a delightful spot in the middle of the city and the residents obviously thought so as well. Families were out in droves, walking, laying about, kids ogling the koi and turtles in the pond and lake, kicking balls and enjoying life.

We were all lucky enough to see two young girls celebrating their quinceanera. They looked beautiful in their long gowns, with family in attendance and taking memorable photographs.

Walking back we stopped at a small cafe that was recommended and got a bite to eat before finishing our packing and heading to the airport. It was as crazy as before, with traffic slightly better but we were so pleased to have a handsome young man, Bernardo, with us to get us safely on our way. A glass of wine soothed our nerves and helped as we tried to figure out what was going on with boarding the flight. For some reason we all had to have our carry-ons searched again. Hmmm. But finally we got settled on board and slept the flight away.

Getting through the Atlanta airport was a breeze, with plenty of time for us to enjoy the lounge. And then Patty and I had to part ways, as I headed back to Seattle and she to Jacksonville. What a great traveling companion she’s been! We’re already plotting the next cruise to use the credit I was given due to my Covid quarantine.

Once in Seattle my cousin, Barb, was kind as always to pick me up, as I had left my car at her house. Off through the city, onto the ferry and I was home!

What a grand journey this has been for one of my biggest bucket list places! To have shared it with a good friend, to have made more friends, to have seen amazing sights, current and from ancient civilizations – it’s been a joy! I can’t say enough good things about Celebrity Cruises. They handled every detail from start to finish and with incredible people all along the way. Thanks for joining me on this adventure. The next one is set for September so keep your eyes open for it!
