I’ve been noticeably absent from my blog this past year as I only tell the stories of my overseas travels. 2018 found me making only US trips…3 times to Boston to visit grandchildren and to take my daughter and her boyfriend to Mount Katahdin, Maine for their southbound hike of the AT, then visiting old friends in New England and the mid Atlantic, plus jaunts to La Quinta, CA and Mesa, Arizona to visit friends. But now my itchy feet have me heading overseas again, this time to New Zealand!
I’ve been there once before, in 2007 on my way to and from Antarctica, but only got a quick peek around the Christchurch area. This time I’m heading there for a month of driving around to see as much as possible. Luckily I have a friend who was willing to take this journey with me. Dian and I met on my trip to China in 2013 (before I began blogging) when she was our American tour guide. We hit it off then and have often said we ought to travel together, so this is the opportunity we took. She lives in Salt Lake City so we’re both flying in to Los Angeles to meet up for the flight to New Zealand, landing in Auckland then flying down to Queenstown to begin the adventure. We’re renting a car and driving and staying wherever the urge takes us. We’ve had fun the past few months reading and planning and discussing options so we’ll see how it all plays out.
I’ll try to post regularly along with pictures and stories of people and places. Hopefully you’ll feel as if you’ve come along with us. We’ve made it as far as Los Angeles…. The next post should find us in New Zealand.
BTW any ads you see on this site are not endorsed by me, but basically the price I pay for a free blog. Try to ignore them!
Hello stranger! I’ve been thinking about you. I’m so happy to see that you are traveling again — and such an incredibly part of the world! Enjoy, and let’s catch up when you’re back in the states. XO
