Out and about…

A bit. Wanted to test out the bit of healing to see how the feet would feel and hold up.

After having visited the medical clinic for the second time and climbing up the hill to the market for more supplies I decided to poke around the neighborhood.

I put my groceries away then walked back down the narrow street to the main road. All these narrow lanes and staircases and paths up the hill remind me of my old neighborhood in Sasebo, Japan. But here the houses are all attached to each other and many are tiled on the outside. Beautiful.

I wandered along the road beside the river until I came upon the Foz do Douro castle. It was right where the Rio Douro meets the ocean.

Across the road, out a long causeway was a lighthouse marking the channel into the river. People were out enjoying the fact that the smoke lifted. Some were sunning. Some fishing. Some enjoying ice cream. Some, like me, were just meandering and enjoying being there.

After a while I headed back along the river through the park, the Jardim Do Passeio Alegre. Lots of paths to choose as well as benches to rest and enjoy people watching. Plus, I had the added pleasure of seeing a number of small sailboats heading down river then turning and sailing back. Colorful!

And that was the extent of my jaunt. A total of 4 miles today. It’s a start back.

Sounds like great progress to me and a fun tour. Portugal and Porto in specific are “all the rage” in travel circles at the moment. On your next jaunt, stopping for a flight of port is in order I’d say. When in Rome…

  2. So glad you are on the mend! Some friends of mine spent some time in Porto last year. They suggest the marine Center and library if you are able to venture out a bit further. They used to walk down and Uber up, Said Bus system is great. Hopefully you will be on the road soon. Sending wishes for improved health. Travel on.
